
ASHI, established in 1976, is the oldest home inspection professional association and has the most members; with membership of about 25% of the total inspectors in the US. Full Membership in ASHI along with ownership of "Errors and Omissions" insurance qualifies an inspector to do home inspections in Pennsylvania.

IHINA represents home inspectors that have declared their independence from real estate agents and have signed a pledge to not market their services to real estate agents, nor accept work directly from them. This is an optional but growing trend among home inspectors nationally, and is promoted as a badge of honesty and dedication to the home buyer.

NAHI was established in 1987, and has gained a large membership in a short time, ranking second to ASHI nationally, but similar in membership in the state of Pennsylvania. Membership in NAHI along with ownership of "Errors and Omissions" insurance qualifies an inspector to do home inspections in Pennsylvania.
